I wanted to focus very much on responsible gun owners, because of the high potential their actions can have on gun tracking and loss prevention. Though some of the other stakeholders are the police, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms + Explosives, licensed gun dealerships, and more, I aimed to define who the "normal people" are and their motivations to better find a way to sell my idea and word my presentation.
Of the main 2 personas, I kept the differences very subtle and even hesitated to give them an alias or a photo, because I wanted their motivations and goals to be reasonable, yet "grey." In the sense of defining them to be very much a mixture of each other, so that the audience can relate characteristics of one or both of them.
I wanted to focus on a persona that was very neutral on the position of guns and not pro-violence. I call this persona The Caretaker because he or she has someone to protect. This is the singular trait that makes the persona capable of using and owning a gun. This trait makes loss prevention, and knowing where the gun is and keeping it within a safe location extremely important to now have firearms present a danger to the very people he or she and others want to protect.
For this persona, which I sometimes refer to as The Driver (Semi-Libertarian), I really wanted to capture the part of the audience that were uncomfortable, wary or even against government regulation. I still kept with a persona that was a responsible gun owner and not inherently pro-violence. However, this persona is not against using the firearms for "valid and reasonable" purposes like self-protection. Because this persona wants to be more in control of his or her own fate and safety, having a way to keep track of and maintain control over the gun would be essential.
Persona 3 (Side Persona)
I was thinking of who else would be affected by guns that would have a stake in my solution. This persona, The Idealist, would be someone who can advocate for the solution, though not directly affected by firearms.
